On April 28th the Dewitt Fish and Game Club hosted the Women in Nature Event. The popular event is sponsored by the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. Over 100 women attended to learn new outdoor skills. Activities included trap shooting, rifle shooting, archery, outdoor cooking, fishing, fly tying, cross bow, wilderness first aid and birding. This all day event is free to the attendees.
It takes a lot of sponsor and over 70 dedicated volunteers to make this event happen. Over the years, a lot of women have gone on to be lifetime participants in the outdoors after attending Women in Nature.
One of the most popular parts of the day is the wild game lunch. Volunteers cook up a huge (and I mean huge) wild game feast. I have eaten a lot of different wild game in my life, but I have never seen anything like this.
I attended the event at the photographer and shot the photos that ran in the New York Outdoor News article written by contributing writer Jeff Murray. Download the Outdoor News Women in Nature article.
